HSE First Aid at Work Courses

Throughout each year many people become injured or ill in the workplace even if the cause has nothing to do with their job, it is vital that these people recieve fast and efficient help from first aid trained colleagues and where necessary the medical professionals. The Health and Safety Executive have recommendations in place to advise employeers and promote first aid training that is suitable for the workplace.

The recommended level of first aid provision in your workplace will depend upon the number of employees and the nature of the work undertaken, ie. the likely risks to health and safety. The first aid provisions that you require must be made available to staff at all times and therefore when considering the first aid provisions in the workplace you must take into account shift workers, staff who are based on other sites and staff who travel as part of their work. It is good practice and highly recommended that you also consider numbers and types of visitors to your place of work, this may include customers, delivery drivers and particularly in the case of schools, the pupils.

Appointed Person

Includes basic training in the suitability and contents of the workplace First Aid Kit, how to correctly record incidents in the workplace and the skills involved in providing Basic Life Support. The course takes place during one day.

Standard First Aid at Work Course

This four day course includes a greater amount of information including Basic Life Support, Bleeding, Shock, Burns, Fractures, Eye Injuries, Common Illness, Calling for Help, Reporting of Accidents and Basic Legal Issues. Course usually takes place over four consecutive days (24 hours training) but can be held over other periods.

Three year certificate.

Refresher

This two day course will renew the four day qualification when undertaken before the original certificate expires.
