Maesnant Outdoor Centre

Our Outdoor Courses, Travellers Courses and some Moulage Exercises are held at Measnant Outdoor Centre in Mid Wales. Set in a stunning area below Plinlimon and on the edge of Nant Y Moch reservoir, the training centre is in the heart of Welsh Countryside that is often overlooked by visitors.

The centre comprises of parking, a simple bunkhouse to sleep 16, shower and toilet facilities, a kitchen and dining area and twelve acres of unspoiled hillside to play in.

Catering is included and it is possible for you to arrive the night before the course begins. Ensure that you bring the items mentioned on your kit list, particularly waterproofs and warm clothing - we will be training outside.

Directions to Maesnant Outdoor Centre

SN 774881

Reaching Maesnant by car is quite simple. The following directions assume that you are travelling along the A44 from Llangurig towards Aberystwyth.

  • Pass the Dyffryn Castell Hotel (on your right)
  • After approximately 1.5 miles you will enter the village of PONTERWYD. IF YOU REACH THE LARGE PETROL STATION (on the right) YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR THROUGH THE VILLAGE AND MISSED YOUR TURNING
  • Turn RIGHT signposted NANT Y MOCH (the first right turn after the 30mph sign)
  • Follow the Nant Y Moch road for approximately five miles. The road passes over 6 cattle grids, just before the 7th cattlegrid (approximately 20m before) you should turn RIGHT onto a tarmac road. This is signposted CRT medical. IF YOU REACH THE DAM YOU HAVE MISSED THE TURNING
  • Follow this road alongside the Nant Y Moch reservoir for approximately 1.5 miles, the road goes over a small stream and ends at the Maesnant Centre gate.

If you are travelling from Aberystwyth on the A44 you will enter Ponterwyd and pass the George Borrow Hotel and a Petrol Station. The turning signposted NANT Y MOCH will therefore be to your left.

GPS and Post Code systems do not seem to recognise Maesnant and tend to point out a position that is only half way along the Nant Y Moch road.
