Remote First Responder Course

New in 2007 this course is available to candidates who already hold a current (in date) first aid qualification of at least two days duration. It is designed for those with a further interest in first aid, extended patient care and for people who expect to be far from medical help.

An advanced first aider will be able to:

  • Direct other first aiders at the scene of an accident or illness.
  • Provide definitive care for patients over an extended period until professional help can be arranged.

Course Outline

This course is practically based and jargon free - it takes place over an intensive, but structured, five days and the certificate lasts for two years. There is a weekend renewal course to extend the qualification. The course is assessed and has a required standard to be achieved for certification.

This course has been specifically designed to aid candidates in their preparations for travel abroad for work and play in areas which can significantly delay the response of professional medical help. The course is run by instructors who have an extensive background in advanced life support, pre-hospital care and remote area medical work. The course is intensive but well structured to maximise training benefits, much of the training is hands on and includes guidance and advice for planning expedition medical support.

Full training is given with homework and daily training scenarios. Candidates need to hold a current in date first aid certificate and practical experience of first aid provision, the certificate is valid for two years from date of issue. This is a very achievable but challenging course.
