Keep an eye out for new stuff on our website!

As expected the UK Resus Council published their five yearly review of the CPR and Choking guidelines on the 18th October. While there were no major changes to lay person protocols the Council have confirmed the need to request a defibrillator when calling for help and have included some additional protocols such as clearing unconscious casualties with an airway obstruction. The emphasis on compression only CPR if there is no ability or willingness to provide manual ventilations was also confirmed.
The teaching methods employed by our team have always covered these points and we are pleased to see that the core 2005 protocols of Basic Life Support which in our experience appears to encourage skill retention with lay first aiders has been retained. Our training materials have been updated with the minor points and all of our courses contain them.
Following attendance by several of the Severn Area Rescue Association on one of our three day outdoor courses in Mid Wales we have received a wonderful letter of thanks from them. The Association are charitable and life saving organisation on substantial size and our training team were impressed by the dedication of the members that we trained. We have offered to support S.A.R.A. members with medical training over the coming year and we hope to be working with them regularly to aid them with their role. You can see their website here
