Workplace First Aid

Why bother…?

Employers are under an obligation to provide a workplace that is as safe as reasonably practicable for their staff and site visitors.  After undertaking risk assessments their preparations might include emergency action plans, safety clothing or equipment and the provision of trained first aiders with first aid equipment.

There are currently two types of HSE approved first aid qualification suitable for the UK’s workplaces, they are the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work one day course and the HSE First Aid at Work Course, a three day course. The core syllabus of each programme is decided by the HSE and only approved training providers are able to provide the training – they each possess an approval number (ours is 46/11). As a rule, those employed in low risk environments such as offices would undertake the one day EFAW, those in higher risk industries like construction would attend the FAW. Also the FAW qualification can be renewed during a two day refresher course.

You should ensure that your chosen training provider is HSE approved and can provide a high quality training experience that is tailored for your staff and their risks. A high standard course will ensure that your staff are confident and able but should also leave them feeling that they have been invested in.
